Mudras are used to connect with Universal energy. Hand Mudras are the most common. Below are Mudras used for showing respect in different settings.
The following mudras are seven different ways of showing respect and devotion. Greetings of friends and neighbors is done with the Namaste Mudra. Namaskar Mudra has a deeper bow than Namaste Mudra and is used for parents and teachers. Pranam Mudra is a humble and submissive gesture reserved for elders, priests and spiritual teachers. Padma Pranam is a seated form of obeisance. Charana Sperse Mudra is used to touch the feet of the revered person. A most humble gesture, implying: "I am at your feet." Charana Bandhana Mudra is a gesture of complete devotion and humility, "honoring the feet." Sastanga Danda Bhat Pranam Samarpan is the ultimate form of supplication to God or Guru. It indicates complete surrender of body mind and soul. This Mudra is only used with the greatest teacher and usually implies a lifelong committment.
